The free bus transport schedules for the Biathlon World Cup opening have been published

In addition to the public buses that run from Kontiolahti, Lehmo and the center of Joensuu, schools in Joensuu and Kontiolahti will have their own bus transportation.

The municipality of Kontiolahti and the city of Joensuu organize free bus transportation for the public to the opening event of the Biathlon World Cup in Kontiolahti on every race day from Tuesday 29 November to 4 December.

Public transportation to the biathlon stadium runs from the center of Joensuu, Kontiolahti church village and Lehmo. In Joensuu, the bus departure and return point is in the center on Torikatu at the market. From Kontiolahti, buses run both from Kirkonkylä (bus station) and from Lehmo (Lehmo and Kylmäoja schools).

Transportation to schools

This year, the special feature of the World Cup is the opportunity offered to schools for bus transportation from their own school to the biathlon stadium and back to the school.

Transportation was offered to ten schools in Joensuu and schools in Kontiolahti. Joensuu's schools were chosen through a joint open call by the city of Joensuu and the Kontiolahti Sportsmen's Association, in which all elementary schools had the opportunity to participate.

Event organizer Kontiolahti Urheilijat offers free entrance tickets to the track grandstand for 12-year-olds and younger.

"As a sports city, we take our turn. We encourage schoolchildren to get to know top sports on the spot, when the world's best are in North Karelia. I hope that the schools spend an unforgettable excursion day at the Biathlon World Cup", says Joensuu City Marketing Director Markku Pyykkönen.
