The people of Kontula have a strong representation in the IBU Cup and the European Championships

The first IBU Cup competitions of the season will be held in Arber, Germany, from 11 to 23 January 2021. Arber competes for two weeks and the teams are in a similar corona bubble as they have been in the World Cup competitions during the season. During the two weeks, three speed races, a shortened normal race and two relay races will be competed.

Four athletes from Kontiolahti Athletes representative athletes have been selected to participate in the Games. The men include Joni Mustonen, Heikki Laitinen and Otto-Eemil Karvinen, who toured the IBU Cup last season. Laitinen moved to KontU for this season and last season he was also in the Finnish national team once in the World Cup competition in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, and in the European Championships in Minsk, Belarus.

On the women's side, for the first time in Finnish colors, Nastassia Kinnunen, who received the right of representation from the International Biathlon Union on January 8, 2021, is participating. Kinnunen has previously represented Belarus in his career, but has lived in Finland since 2017 and received Finnish citizenship at the end of 2020.

The same foursome has also been selected for the Finnish team for the European Championship, which will be held in Poland on January 24-31, 2021.
