The public transport schedules for the Biathlon World Cup, which will be held at the Kontiolahti Biathlon Stadium in mid-March, have been published. In addition to free bus transportation, the event partners also organize shared transportation from Koli and other parts of Finland.
The city of Joensuu and the municipality of Kontiolahti will organize free public transportation to the biathlon stadium on every race day from Thursday to Sunday, March 12-15, 2020. In Joensuu, the bus departure and return point is in the center at Kauppatori. Buses run from Kontiolahti both from Kirkenkoyla and from Lehmo. This year you can also ride from Kylmäoja school.
The first buses to the stadium leave about three hours before the start of the games on each race day. On the days of one race, i.e. Thursday and Friday, the last bus to the stadium leaves 45 minutes before the start of the race. The return rides start at the end of the race and the last rides go when the audience area closes. On the days of the two races, i.e. Saturday and Sunday, the buses run back and forth from morning to evening.
Also happening at Joensuu market. During the race weekend, Yle's broadcast of the games is playing on the screen of the market, and there is entertainment and activities that can be enjoyed either while waiting for the bus or otherwise just to set the mood for the event.
Public transportation also from Koli and the rest of Finland
You can also travel to the event by carpooling from Koli and other parts of Finland. Among accommodation companies, for example Möhkön Rajakartano from Ilomantsi offers its guests a transport service to the games.
"Six travel organizers from different parts of the country are bringing guests by bus to Saturday's race. One tour organizer's bus trip is sold out, but there are still places available on other routes," says Heikki Hamunen from Kontiolahti Athletes ry, which organizes the event.
