Youth Jukola for Kontiolahti
The management team of Nuorten Jukola has granted the 2026 organizing rights for Nuorten Jukola to Kalevan Rasti and Kontiolahti Urheilijos. The event will take place at the Kontiolahti biathlon stadium in August 2026. The selection was announced in Hyvinkää in connection with the Youth Jukola on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
- It's great to have a super weekend for young people in North Karelia. The weekend includes Saturday's Youth Jukola and Sunday's individual competition, in both of which more than a thousand orienteers will participate, says Hannu Airila, president of Kalevan Rasti.
The Kontiolahti biathlon stadium offers a good setting for organizing a successful event, as the area has a lot of parking space, laundry and restaurant facilities, and a spacious stadium.
- We have good experience in organizing major events thanks to the Biathlon World Cup and World Championships. In Youth Jukola, we will now also be able to utilize the same expertise and environment during the orienteering super weekend, says the general secretary of the event Sami Leinonen.
The fabric terrain surrounding the biathlon stadium is well suited for an orienteering event for children and young people. The orienteering family of Silvennoinen is responsible for the course masterwork, for which the surroundings of the biathlon stadium are familiar outdoor terrain.
- The weekend is the highlight of the year in orienteering for children and young people, and there are also many first-time participants in the Games. The terrain of Jaamankanka with its paths offers a safe environment for the smallest participants. However, there are demanding areas in the area for more experienced orienteers, describes Airila.
The tentative dates of the event weekend are August 22-23, 2026.
