Biathlon World Cup starts - get to know the Finnish team

With last season's team success, both the Finnish women's and men's teams have five athlete spots at the opening of the World Cup.

The Finnish national biathlon team has prepared for the opening of the World Cup starting next week in Kontiolahti.

"Despite the warm autumn, Finland has had the best snow conditions in the Nordic countries. Thanks to them, the team has had a good training period towards the opening of the season", says executive director Tapio Pukki of the Finnish Biathlon Union.

The national team has grown with success

For Finns, the season starts in an interesting mood. Last season was the Finns' best in the entire 2000s in terms of team success. As a result, both Finnish women and men have five athlete places at the opening of the World Cup instead of the previous four places.

There is also something new in coaching.

"For head coach Erik Kulstad, the games are the first World Cup under the Finnish team's responsibility," says Pukki.
