Kontiolahti Outdoor: Guided fatbike and snowshoe trips and shooting with eco-guns and miniature rifles during ski vacation weeks

Kontiolahti Outdoor has put together the first weekly programs in its history for the ski holiday weeks of February-March. There will be guided fatbike and snowshoe tours as well as eco-weapon and miniature rifle shooting. The cafe, sledding hill and slopes are also open.

The idea for the weekly program came about by offering familiar services in a new way, says development manager Mika Okkonen.

—We have offered similar programs in the past mostly only as part of the tyky/tyhy operation. Now with the stronger interest in outdoor exercise, we are testing whether there would be a demand for guided programs among private individuals as well, says Okkonen.

Speciality: Eco-weapon and miniature rifle shooting

The weekly program offers guided fatbike and snowshoe trips as well as eco-weapon and miniature rifle shooting, which is rarer in the national program service offering. The weekly program does not have separate trips reserved for the sliding snowshoes who made a breakthrough this winter.

—We have six pairs of sliding snowshoes. We have reserved them for use outside the weekly program, either for independent movement or for a separately booked group excursion, says Okkonen.

Winter trails are suitable for fat bikes

Okkonen considers the network of winter trails opened in the Kontiolahti, Joensuu and Liperi areas and its web-based maintenance monitoring service to be one of the most significant outdoor news of the winter.

—Ski bikes, or fat bikes, are suitable for winter trails as well as for the summer season. We included guided fat bike tours in the weekly program of ski holidays to remind cyclists of the possibilities of maintained winter trails as well.

Cafe and sledding hill open

Kafvio Napakymppi opens its service on Monday, February 15 and is open daily from 9 am to 3 pm. The cafe offers coffee products such as hot drinks and pastries.

—Next to the cafe, there is a lighted and wide sledding hill suitable for the whole family, as well as tracks in very good condition. We will possibly freeze the skating rink as well. Our goal is to offer a place to relax and versatile activities for families, small groups and individual outdoor enthusiasts, says the CEO of Kontiolahti Outdoor Kimmo Turunen.
