The aim of the family day of the first snow slope, organized for the first time at the Kontiolahti Biathlon Stadium, is to encourage families to move outside in the fall as well, says Kontiolahti Outdoor CEO Kimmo Turunen.

—We will exceptionally open a few activities for family day that are normally only available for tyky and other groups, says Turunen.

Some of the family day activities are those for which performance venues have only recently been built.

—We were able to open the archery and low rope courses in August. The customer groups that have tried them have given very enthusiastic feedback about them. Now we can offer a trial opportunity for families as well.

Bracelet for four hours

During the family day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests can try eco-gun shooting, archery, climbing on the lower ropeway and bouncing in two bouncy castles, which have a canopy to protect against possible rain.

The price of the trial right for people over 12 is 5 euros. Younger people are not charged.

—Guests get a wristband in the familiar way from amusement parks or Tivoli, which gives them the right to participate. The ski season opens on the previous Thursday, and ski tickets are sold and, for example, fatbikes are rented during the family day as usual, Turunen says.

Partner search on

Turunen says that a new event concept is being tested this year. As a partner of Kontiolahti Outdoor, the program is offered by Ski Professional, whose point can be used to test cross-country skiing equipment.

—We deliberately did not apply for several partners for this autumn. If the experiences from the first time are encouraging, we welcome new partners, companies or associations to participate in the next season's opening event. In this way, it would be possible to develop a wide variety of programs.

• Kontiolahti Outdoor's partner at Suksiproffa's presentation and sales point Peltonen's new fur coats, Rex's creams and Leki's rods. You can test skis on the piste when you buy a piste ticket.
• Snow building from cannon snow. You can build and shape characters from last winter's cannon snow. We recommend bringing your own tools.
• Wall Climbing Challenge. Climb the steepest ascent of the Biathlon World Cup, Kontiolahti's famous wall ascent, and take a picture of yourself on top of the hill with Kaisa Mäkäräinen's character.
• The Nelly and Nalle mascots known from the Biathlon World Cup are in the area to the delight of children and parents.
• Cooked lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kahvio-Ravintola in Napakympi, price €8 (11-year-olds and younger €5).
• First snow slope open for skiers.
