KONTIOLAHTI ATHLETES' ASSOCIATION IN A NUT SHELL

  • One of the most visible and well-known sports clubs in North Karelia.
  • In sports biathlon and skiingshooting, orienteering and youth and recreational sports.
  • The club's office at the Kontiolahti Biathlon Stadium (Napakympintie 24, 81100 Kontiolahti) in the heart of Kontiolahti Outdoor and in the middle of the Kontiopolku network.
  • Special strengths:
    • Cooperation with Kontiolahti Outdoor's first snow slope - the ski season opens already in October.
    • Biathlon World Cup events with 30 years of experience - the next World Cup will be held in November 2024.
    • Nine trained coaches and head coach for biathlon and cross-country skiing: quality activities available for children and young people.

HISTORY

  • Started operating under the name Niemen Veto in 1956.
  • The club was a general club and the sports were athletics, orienteering, biathlon and sport shooting.
  • Athletics was later dropped - the club became a special four-sport club.
  • We received good training for shooting from the defense forces.
  • At the end of the 1960s, training activities for young people came in.
  • In 1982, the club's name was changed to Kontioranta Athletes. The club worked in close cooperation with the neighboring Kontioranta garrison.
  • A couple of years later, the name of the club wanted to include its hometown and the current name of the club became Kontiolahti Urheilijat.

  • World Cup competition 1990 (final), 1993 (final), 1997, 2003 (opening), 2006, 2007 (opening), 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2018, 03/2020, 11/2020 (opening) , 12/2020, 03/2022 and 11/2022. Coming: November 2024 and March 2026.
